let the author cook. Some of us don't get social queues up close. It's WAY more obvious watching other people interact. I honestly can't think of any other organic way they could've introduced snow white's animal power. And honestly i'm glad they introduced Ariel. There's nothing more annoying than world-building but the species introduced in the beginning never make an appearance or have any effect on said world. I'm not reading the novel but I feel like other than finally getting those two socially awkward kids together, there's an underlying quest of getting a bit more involved with magic and magical beings so we can eventually figure out how to get the baby boy out of the mirror and set the 2 babies up to live happily ever after, with a sibling or romantic dynamic.
