I really hate when a story will just casually introduce racism whether it's like through magical people or whatever it's still racism and then never address it like they make it a main point and then never do anything to like improve the racism within the the society they created. They're just like these characters fell in love and we're going to forget the whole societal structure even though we made it a main point in the story. I'm only a couple chapters deep so hopefully that doesn't happen but I'm feeling like that's not likely.
That sounds normal to me. Racism exists and we haven't been able to eradicated it from our society. Some ppl are just racist and there's nothing anyone can do to stop them from being that way. So if the author doesn't improve it in their story, that feels realistic.
ummm babes, racism doesn't just happen and some people aren't just racist. Yes, bias/prejudice/discrimination does occur, but racism is a tool used by the malicious people in power (ie. like billionaires) to exploit society and resources. The reason it's not eradicated is because the rich purposely keep it around as a tool to control the masses, this is also the reason that during recessions hate crimes and discourse increase (this is also when stage 1 of genocides start to occur) because the rich create a 'problem' or 'other' to take the blame for THEIR evil deeds. (ex. Germany was poor after having to pay for WW1 because they were held responsible and had to pay reparations, so Hitler used people's frustration and desperation to shift the blame onto the Jewish population, claiming they were the reason the country had money problems. While fueling that hate, he was able to rise to a high position of power and hold power for a long period of time).
We also have seen numerous instances where societies and communities have worked to eradicate racism or have set up communist/liberal societies, but then another country, government, or church power came in and destabilized or created more discourse/tensions between the groups.
There has been centuries of time and billions of dollars invested into PR, to make you have an internal bias and perceived views toward certain groups and individuals. The moment you are born, you are indoctrinated into your country's and the world's PR campaigns and cover-ups to make you think a certain way as well as private companies as well. Every stereotype has an origin, an insidious one. They are created to change how others perceive certain groups or individuals.
Capitalism also plays an extensive role in this (just a reminder capitalism doesn't mean making lots of money, an economic system in which a society's means of production of goods or services are privately owned and operated for a profit (essentially, it just means a small group of people in power exploit others to achieve and profit and push their wants/morals onto others). Racism is also considered 'profitable' which is why they they spent time and money to brand and rebrand slavery as well (ie. a good portion of black stereotypes come from slavery, to justify making black people slaves, same as how a lot of East Asian stereotypes like the 'submissive' or 'hyper-feminine' women can be tied back to US propaganda and comfort women). Heck just look into the racist history of MSG in the West and the racist smear campaign to make people think it was dangerous and unhealthy.
Racism doesn't 'just happen' it's funded, it's campaigned, and they create laws, stories, education systems and imaginary threats, to justify it, to enforce it and to instill it. (think of the Hunger Games and how much Snow and the Captial put time, effort and money into justifying the games and the propaganda surrounding the Capital - like the Reaping Propaganda video "war... terrible war").
Unfortunately from the moment you are born into the world, someone is selling you something, whether it's your government, another government or a private company, people are spending money to brainwash you into that exact thought process
Anyway you should check out HUNGRY SOULS (Yaoi), there are only 11 chapters so far but it has the same concept as the side story but it's more thought out
