I'm trying (I haven't finished it yet) but how do they "know" each other like why did they end up in their contract/ play

Mmm I’ll try my best to explain, babes! Hope it makes sense!

First thing to note is that this story is actually a spin-off of another BL called Still, I Like It. You can find it on here, if you’re interested. It follows a character named Minjae (Damon’s ex), and tells the story of how Minjae falls in love with Damon’s brother.
Damon/Jinwoo and Colton are both side characters in Still, I Like It. The contract they have now is a result of some things that happened in that previous story. If you want to avoid spoilers, stop reading now! Also, cuz you said you haven’t finished everything yet, you might want to go finish it and then come back, because idk what I might say that will spoil things for you !!!

So basically, Damon gets his heart broken by Minjae, and ends up in a depressive spiral. This is when he goes to England, and has his first interaction with Colton at the Night Owl bar (this is the scene where they hook up, but Colton is so drunk that he doesn’t remember it was Damon that he slept with. And Damon only later recalls that they’d had this interaction). Then flash forward, Colton is now working for an art gallery and attending an exhibit. Whose exhibit, you may ask? Well, it just so happens to be Damon’s exhibit (because serendipity). Remember, Colton doesn’t remember meeting Damon earlier, but Damon DOES remember Colton. This is the scene where Colton (with his boss) watch as Damon tells off one of the more prestigious professors. Colton is instantly attracted to Damon’s personality and confidence. Later, after the exhibit, Colton goes to have a smoke. And what do you know, Damon is also having a smoke. This is the scene where Colton lets Damon borrow his lighter, and Damon realizes that Colton does not recognize him from their first fling. Mmmkay now BIG time jump! Minjae is now working under Colton in Korea (yes, Colton went to Korea for work). And Damon finds out that Minjae works at an art gallery - an art gallery that has actually reached out to Damon in the past. Cuz, remember, Damon is like a super talented potter, so a lot of galleries want to showcase his work. Damon is still heartbroken over Minjae and so desperate to see him again, so decides to go to Minjae and Colton’s place of work under the guise that he wants to set up an exhibition with the gallery. Damon runs into Minjae and they agree to meet up to talk about Damon’s art and potentially having him sign a contract with the gallery. Colton notices them talking from afar and can sense the tension between them (he doesn’t know that they are exes at this point, but he can tell that they have some kind of history). Minjae tells Damon that they can meet up and discuss business, but only if his boss (Colton) is with them. Obviously, this is not what Damon wants, but he agrees. However, Damon is a sly fox and he comes up with a plan to get Minjae alone, like he originally wanted. He has his manager reach out to the gallery and set up a meeting at the exact time and date that Damon, Minjae, and Colton are supposed to have their meeting. Colton can’t accompany Minjae anymore, because he has to meet with Damon’s manager. So, Minjae goes to Damon’s studio by himself. That’s when Damon comes onto him and tbh tries to force himself onto Minjae. Minjae leaves, but is rattled. At the same time all of that was happening, Colton was meeting with Damon’s manager. Colton tells the manager that he needs to speak to Damon face-to-face if they’re going to have a working relationship. Colton and Damon end up having that in-person meeting a bit later in a hotel room (because why not lol). Colton recognizes Minjae’s pheromones on Damon (from when Damon tried to assault him), and Colton assumes (rightly so) that Damon must’ve done something to Minjae. Colton has his own baggage and trauma surrounding alphas taking advantage of omegas (particularly his father abusing Dylan), so he gets MAD MAD. This is the part in Chapter 1 where Colton pins Damon to the bed and starts releasing his pheromones, suffocating Damon with them. Colton is so livid that he ends up taking things too far. Damon gets pheromone poisoning from their encounter and is too sick to attend an important business meeting - which results in him losing his exhibition spot (side note: Minjae ends up taking his spot). After Damon recovers, he goes out to drink away all his problems. He doesn’t want to think abt what happened with Colton, or why he kind of liked it, or how Minjae keeps rejecting him, or how he just missed out on a great opportunity… He just wants to get wasted. And he does. So much so, that he ends up in a jail cell. He has Minjae’s business card in his pocket, so the police call Minjae to come get him. Minjae does, and takes him back to his studio. Damon is HEAVILY intoxicated at this point, and feeling conflicted about what happened with Colton. Damon ends up assaulting Minjae and, in his drunken stupor, almost marks him. Thankfully, he comes to his senses in time and stops. While this is happening, Minjae notices that Damon’s pheromones smell kind of off - like they’re mixed with someone else’s?
Anyway, don’t worry too much abt Minjae. It all gets resolved. But when Minjae goes back to work, he gets called into Colton’s office. It’s there where he smells the same pheromone combination that was on Damon before. So Minjae’s just like… wtf happened between them lmao!?

Okay okay this is getting so long - let me hurry it up! So Damon is heartbroken again over Minjae, and frustrated abt his experience with Colton and the gallery exhibition falling through, so he decides to go back to England. This is the part in Chapter 1 when Damon is on the plane and Colton is trying to call him. Damon ignores him. When he gets to England, he ends up at the Night Owl bar again. He gets drunk. Colton shows up to apologize to Damon (that’s right bitches! this man flew to a different country to say sorry! istg he’s too precious). Anyway, Damon comes onto him because he’s drunk and his inhibitions are gone, and they hook up. Next morning, they sit down at a coffee shop and Colton gets to properly apologize. But that’s not what Damon wants from him. Nope! Damon wants to enter into a sex contract with Colton! Lmao at how I’m finally getting to your question - I’m so sorry! But yeah, Damon realizes that when he’s sleeping with Colton, he’s not thinking about Minjae. And also, he puts into their contract that Colton will make up for the fact that he cost Damon the art exhibition in Korea by putting Damon in the lineup for the Gallery A October exhibition (the biggest one they have).

Basically, Damon enters into the contract to forget about Minjae, and move on. This is really important to him, because he hasn’t been able to create art for the past five years because he’s been in an art block caused by their breakup. So Colton is his chance to let go of the past and make art again. Also, he wants that exhibition spot, of course.
Colton enters the contract for a similar reason. To move on from Dylan. The Colton-Dylan relationship is really strange, but this is how I understand it: Basically, Dylan is Colton’s stepdad. Colton has a serious attachment to Dylan because he was the only kind adult in his life after Colton’s mother passed away. Dylan sees Colton as like an idealized version of Kalimane, Colton’s father. He looks like his Dad, but treats Dylan well. But Dylan is not in love with Colton, he’s in love with Kalimane. When Colton is with Damon, he’s able to move on from his feelings for Dylan.
