Although memory is very hazy and I have no memories of ML’s parents dying. My guess is that his parents are the ones who disagreed with the experiment that the doctor was part of bcuz of it being morally wrong. So they killed MLs parents and thats why doctor said the line “became orphan overnight”. So overall plot is doc is illegal kid to a wealthy family who happens to be a guide -> family experiments to turns guide to esper -> successful so doctor is esper but has no guide -> searching for the perfect guide (MC) -> ML parents said this is wrong and was killed by Doctor family and others. Conclusion Dr is reason why ML family is dead
