Yeah i think he got better at communicating as the story progressed, but i think this stuff set him back a lot i actually feel more bad for him this time more than being frustrated.

It's the mark every omega and alpha posses. Once they find their mate, that mark form into unique pattern. It's like symbol of imprinting, but instead bite mark on the neck or even ear in some stories, they have this. But that mark can only transform into pattern if one person is alpha and another is omega. In their case it's impossible, because both are alphas.
Btw, you should give a chane to entire story, it's pretty good.

it’s been months since i’ve read the main story so i may be wrong here, but as far as i remember, i think everyone gets those marks when their secondary gender presents (or when they’re born idk?) and the marks change when they become mates with someone and both marks match each other

I as well can't remember when the marks are showing, but probably when they present 2nd gender, since betas were never mentioned to have one. When alpha and omega become mates like for example Colton's parents mark will look like tattoos of sone sort, I may be mistaken but his mom and that piece of trash father had flowers as mark.
