Can't a character be damned to the bone complex? the ml was made to be "stupid" man with prob huge trust issues, and a naive weak hearted abused for a fl to create a signature dynamic to the story. Their attitude and personalities mold the plot, if they are two intelligent people who can communicate and connect puzzles in one see, the story would have end in chapter 5.
