like, corsets weren't meant to make your waist smaller, they were meant to help your hips handle the weight of multiple petticoats and also do what a bra does now, offer support for ur boobies.

since fashion was the only way women could express themselves at the time, it was always something ridiculed by men, you can search for satirical drawings from like the 18th century mocking big shoulder puffs and big hats and other stuff, but it got more intense as women's rights started to become a thing in Europe.

the fashion industry was the main way for women to be independent, the big fashion names in the 19th century were women's actually, and since the garments were very complex, corsets were really important to the industry, so demonizing corsets was actually kind of a political play to destroy women's fashion businesses, taking away what little political power they had, while also just trying to pick on any feminine traits to demoralize them.

Men protested it because it caused major health problem for their women such as hysteria etc! Just another comment where I continue to long for men like that.

Knowing men and their oppressive tendencies towards woman over centuries, I wouldn’t believe the healthcare comment 100% to be honest lol. Maybe a minority of men cared about that but most were definitely trying to silence women

Actually there has been research shown that most corsets weren't that small, the small ones that survived were the ones used least often. Additionally small corsets were like the skinny models of today that appear in magazines. They seemingly represented more than their ratio of the population when it came to fashion. Also whenever a women had any issues many doctors who were males simply labeled it as hysteria, this also gave the belief that women were stereotypically weak as they got diagnosed with hysteria more often. This was a problem for upper middle class white house wives in the US during the 1900s. Many women weren't happy just raising kids because of course many had other asperations but the male doctors at the time just labeled it as hysteria and gave them drugs which led to an over prescription of drugs for that demographic. I believe evidence for the US information comes from a book written by a feminist at that time called "The Second Sex". And for the corset stuff, i just remembered information from a youtube video where a woman from the modern age actually tested the effects of a corset. They measured her breathing and everything.
