the manga-plot aside, I think what's inhumane is finding old people burdensome and disregarding them. As they often are seen in society. so a bit discriminatory and ageist there.
If your body wants to die then let it die. Death is natural. Honestly I wouldn't want to be hooked up to a machine when I'm hella old, there are many who now exercise that right to say the same. That's not living. Our obsession with trying to make someone live as long as humanly possible even if they end up not being able to move and are in pain from all the diseases they have makes no sense.

I care about how meemaw is old and doesn't have much time left anyways, I care that her last moments should be made comfortable and not trying to eternize her pain. I care bc I saw tubes being shoved down my 92 yo grandma's throat bc my aunt's and uncles cared to cure her and not her comfort, while she was literally fighting the nurses with the little strength she had left. yea you did phrase it wrong. let people die sure, but if they want too. that includes the old.
to add your grandmother wanted to go. some others might not want too just yet even if they are sick. and just because if they're old does not mean their choice to live is worth any less than a young persons was my point.
