In the novel ending, the author Reeze and cliff do get married. In the side stories, they end up getting divorced due to a crime she commits and she’s sent away to a monastery. There was no og reeze in the novel. Cliff truly liked the author, and was heartbroken. But he moved on eventually and happily married another girl later on.

I’m so glad you mentioned it. I Was literally about to post how uncomfortable it’s making me? Like, feels very black face? If it was a zombie or magic thing, they could have made the palms and nails black too. And if was just a tattoo, they could have done sleeves and not the back of the palms??? Like, this is a step extra into almost black face and is super pulling me out of the immersion, they need a really good explanation for this or idk if I can continue without it being distracting

Hey, I’m black so I just wanna preface saying your opinion is your opinion. But do know that just because this character has black out tattoos doesn’t make it black-face, there’s a lot that goes into that but it’s mainly the intent behind it, it isn’t to deface, dehumanize, imitate or insult black people so it’s not black-face, throwing this term around makes it seem like cancel culture and hurts people just using the color palette and trying to make art :) . Black out tats are cool and unless that person is imitating black folk we good.

Yeah so again, to everyone saying to Google what a black out tattoo is, I encourage you to do the same: it could have been a sleeve or included the palms too. In fact I also encourage you to Google the following literary devices too. I’m not trying to cancel the author: This is a super unusual tattoo, the authors is “hanging a lamp on it” signaling that something significant will happen around it. I am asking them to reveal their reason for choosing this, their “checkov’s gun” so to speak, because like OP, I legit thought they zombified different arms to this person.

I appreciate Yeet or Yotes feedback in the matter of blackface, and agree the author is not doing anything derogatory. I’ll just add my own perspective as someone Asian: having darker skin in many Asian cultures was/is seen as being lower class, this is why you see a lot of East Asians skin bleaching, especially in earlier 2000s, and why in a lot of stories on this website, darker skinned people as MLS can be hyper sexualized. It’s undeniably problematic and gross of my own culture.

So as an Asian American, when I see such a character design, I question the authors choice to paint their character’s skin black excluding the palms. Im hoping the author can give a good explanation that isn’t based in cheap stereotyping tropes.

Also to the person who said to Google Sisyphus, i already knew the myth basis and I’m not seeing a connection to why this persons arms would be colored black at all actually. If anything shouldn’t it ALSO be the palms then as he is pushing the Boulder uphill?

Again, it could have also included his nails and palms to some extent, this was a conscious choice by the story creator, and it DOES give bad cultural stereotyping vibes until explained in a future chapter ¯_(ツ)_/¯ perhaps black face was too specific and honestly inappropriate of a word, so I apologize for using it so casually given it’s weight.

What do you want ppl to do? cancel everyone with blackout tattoos? on what kinda cancel woke culture are you on. It's an artistic choice and yes there's a connection to sisyphos he's always portrayed in black paint not his skin color but everything about him, he himself the hill and the stone in almost every illustration, the blackness represents hell and doom it's about the darkness not about any form of skin tone and to accuse the author of racism for what?? not painting his palm too while I've never seen this done in real life either lol
