Usually you would think that the fight is to stay alive, but here the artist (as so often in their stories) does it the other way...

I once read a story similar to this one:
It's in a time where through a genetic checkup it can be determined very early if that person will need an organ-transplant later, then they are cloned just with the gen that would lead to the non-functioning organ fixed. The clones are raised to grow that necessary organ and then have to die.
Just in one case, the clone and the original person met, talked a lot and finally decided to switch places.
The people around them only realized when the "clone" suddenly died bc their heart did not work properly.
It is left open whether or not the clone is then allowed to life the originals life.
