There's a webtoon called Ebony that tackles about a woman on the death row after being falsely accused of murdering her own father and fiance when in fact, her fiance's death was an accident and she was also a victim of trying to protect herself from getting raped. She was only able to prove her innocence after she was released from prison by the new ruler of the country (that was colonized) and the sole reason to this is that releasing her is a symbol of the country being defeated.

If you compare the setting of this story and Ebony, getting accused for something you didn't do and being placed to the death row because of this is possible. I'm not saying everyone on the death row is innocent although mindlessly killing them for your own gain is violating the law. Sure, their pain won't be prolonged and death is inevitable but your
life getting cut for a crime you didn't do is injustice. What if that person still wants to live? This is just like other isekai mangas where they travel back in the past because they got sentenced to death for something they didn't do. Even Death Note has this shit that you cannot take other's lives just because they were known to be criminals. This is why it's very controversial.

Yeah, I get that and I would be against it if it was to be done in real life because honestly, there isn't a perfect justice system and someone will always get accuse of something they won't do but this is a story, a fantasy written in the author's mind so technically if he/she wants it then she can make all 1000 death row inmates guilty of their crimes. Maybe I'm chill about this because I tend to separate reality from stories I read, so I just think "eh so what? Just kill them or don't."

ah the reason why its controversial is because primarily of the fact that he decided death and sacrifice for others for his own love and purpose just because people are guilty, we dont know how much of them are guilty yet still have a chance for redemption,, its just the toll of 1000 souls is too much to swallow even as a side plot device for the ml to show his passion for fl
