I’m 99% sure that Taeha’s mother is another woman who slept with the chairman and clearly that caused a rift between the chairman and his wife, and she wants him to fulfil his duties to her since clearly he’s been neglecting her.

I think for him as much as possible he doesn't want to kill. And it's not about conscience it's more so to avoid increasing the death counts surrounding him and to avoid suspicion.
