He will not quit. Ines always respects Carcel’s decisions. He explains why he won’t quit to her later on. After this assassination attempt on his life, he decides he needs power and a higher position so that no one can kill him and take his wife. Therefore, he wants to become a war hero on the level of his grandfather so that even the emperor cannot touch him. That’s because his grandfather was more admired by the entire country than the emperor.
