You're right about most of this, but then so are the others. She is very damaged, and angry, but she's also only thinking about herself right now. She was not the only one at the orphanage sold, and many were sold into prostitution, or slavery, or even eaten or killed. Plus there are those sold over seas that the military police probably can't find, free, or even save because they are out of country. None of this matters to her because like any trauma victim all she can see is herself. It's her personality. The author could have made her grateful the way many victims are, but they chose to make her the type that is angry because help came too little too late. Plus I believe part of her anger is directed at herself. She did whatever it took to make money to buy her freedom, only be basically told it was pointless because she was free. After all of that she no doubt feels like she let those men defile her for nothing.



As far as girls from other countries who are given into prostitution as children, the harsh reality is is that they are often sold to feed their families or are spoils of war. They have no where to go, and no choice, much like Veronica, that is true, but it is also true that she has a chance to go out and change her life now, something many never have.
