Most of my friends who like BL would never even ASK actual gay men about their romantic and sexual lives. I also read GL and I wouldn't ask lesbians any invasive questions. I never understood why there were always these characters who are so obsessed with irl gay people that they'd take pictures and write fanfiction of them. There's this cute story that's kinda cheesy but I like regardless (Don't tell me you love me) and the MC's sister always ruins it for me. She literally writes fanfic about HER OWN BROTHER and when he and his best friend end up together they even read it and find nothing weird about it. It's so gross.
I don't know if it's because I'm too old or bisexual anyways, but seeing same sex couples doesn't excite me unless they're friends of mine and I'm happy for them. It feels icky, and men especially have a lot of trouble expressing affection to their own, so it's discouraging for them when they're purely friendly and people already assume that they're gay, it's super counterproductive. Even I get uncomfortable when I just hug my other male friends and people already assume there's some potential.
Well I understand you because I am lesbian myself. But I have a little different theory. Where I live, there are a very few people who are actually gay while a lot of them support them. I like both. I don't have any friends who are actual gay nor people around me do such things. But still I would love to see one around me. Of course I am not saying that I would get too excited and drool over their lives. I would definitely be calm which I usually am and believe others should do the same rather than just fantasizing and intervening in there personal lives.

And I can see your point. I have tons of LGBT+ friends so I'm lucky, but if you barely have any in your circle when you're a lesbian yourself it must feel a bit lonely and you can't help it but feel happy for them, and somewhat excited because you're not the only one.
