This was so dramatic and angsty and sometimes I wanted to choke the life out of Taeju (and others), but I couldn’t stop reading so it’s a 10/10
I know the art is kinda ugly but by now I’ve actually grown very fond of it
The manga can be read without knowing any mahjong (I had no idea what mahjong was) — I still enjoyed that first read, it’s not a problem as long as you don’t mind not understanding every little thing.
Years later, for my re-read I watched a few videos on Japanese/Riichi Mahjong basics beforehand (just some short ones), and I kept a Terminology list open in case I didn’t understand the terms (Reach Mahjong of New York had most of the words). I took the time to sorta understand the game itself and it was really fun :)
Really, don’t let the strange artstyle or nonexistent mahjong knowledge stop you from giving it a try.
For anime watchers: The Washizu is very long but 100% worth it, that’s where the anime leaves off. Crazy stuff lol

Warning for abrupt open ending! Still, the story is worth reading imo. The protagonist, Kim/Pet Shop, is an absolute monster. He doesn’t consider himself human at all. Also, his power mechanic is pretty cool (Laios would be so jealous lol)
This is one of the few times the manhwa adaptation is better than the novel.
The end of the main story does feel abrupt (I haven’t gotten to the side stories yet), but that’s because the protagonist is too capable. After all, he’s been preparing to kill the hero all this time :9
Still, I recommend this novel for anyone who likes an OP + smart + lucky protagonist, good action scenes, zero romance, nice visuals, and a smooth ride. Great to pass the time and relax while reading.

Well, considering Azusa manipulated and raped Kaede, which was then brushed off, I shouldn’t get my hopes up.
I have read a LOT of fucked up manga/manhwa/novels, but to this day I occasionally remember that scene where Sangwoo is waiting outside the house while the Killing Me Softly lyrics linger in the background and it still makes me shiver.
