What a beautiful story unlike any other ABO manga tropes and cliches
I think it was well written and more bittersweet than beautiful but the tropes were there.
The mangaka was masterful regarding the rape that happened in high school....I was impressed with the realism of an omega nearly committing suicide to avoid gang rape by his former friends only to have his best friend rape and bite pair with him to save his life. The ANGST was so damn palpable with this story!
But the thing that nags at me is this idea of soul mates/fated mates. Is a soul mate supposed to be your mirror or your opposite? Opposites attract but their passion could be toxic. That Taiga alpha bastard was pure trash, why did he have to be Yuka's fated pair in the first place? Yuka was a good guy. I don't dislike Kaoru's character and I believe he wholeheartedly loved Yuka...but I still feel like Yuka and Kaoru lack any passion--they still seem like close friends that have sex and now have a kid. You could consider them as mirror soulmates. The other Omega was just a really tragic character thrown in to help Taiga become a decent human being. That omega was gang raped in school by the baseball team who are all rolled up into Taiga's original evil character. i kinda feel like he's doing his penance in taking care of him but is that love? Idk. Still the writing was well done and the mangaka brought things full circle.
I do agree with the second couple things. But even though the story does have that trope it kinda feels different. Leaving aside the rape and all ( which is such a cliche in almost every yaoi mangas and I don't remember if I have seen any ABO w/o a character being rape with) aside, I liked how the story goes were the fated pairs got switched and the ending was on a hopeful note.
Yep! what is different about this manga is that the rape was essential to the plot and not thrown in there to satisfy some formula. I avoid rape stories in omegaverse and yaoi, in general but I stuck with this one for the reasons I outlined.
