I'm just thinking, if Chang would have been honest with his feelings and treated Ed better, then the story would have been so different. He could've easily obtain Ed's heart but he chose not to because of society, the fear of losing Ed and also that deep hatred he had which he just couldn't explain. That way Ed would've never met Mcqueen and probably could've gotten together with Chang which he definitely would. I think Ed was developing maybe even already having romantic feelings for Chang (but yes, it could've also just been some brotherly feelings). You reap what you sow, and that's exactly what Chang did in the end. It doesn't excuse his wrong doings but Chang is actually quite the tragic and sad character that gives this story a little bit more depth and feels
