I'd say a combination of desperation, jealousy, possessiveness, frustration and a whole lotta Heineken. We see quite the build up to that blurted out offer since the previous chapter, at least from Edd's POV. From what I could understand in the next chapter, a few panels would be all about "WTF am I doing?" (⊙…⊙ )

I hate the mom she made the whole thing about her, she said to find mate but only if they are tan and a girl. AND SAYING THAT HE LIKES THE DAD MORE THEN HER ughhhh.
