Uhhh, isn’t this the norm? Most people I know have parents with a “favorite” where one child is placed above all else well the rest are neglected and forgotten. Including me. I think it’s more common than loving all your kids equally. Then add in the fact that they’re rich, they need a successor and the other child is sickly. I think it’s obvious the way it would go.
Tbh ion think it a “norm.” Its def not uncommon cuz I’ve seen cases of it often but it’s not smt that happens as commonly as u make it sound.
I personally have parents who love me and my siblings relatively equally. They might secretly have favorites but they never show it as blatantly as shown in the mc’s parents. Honestly I wouldn’t mind being the least favorite if I am. Cuz they treat me basically equally and if that’s how the least favorite child gets treated I’ll take it.
I also have friends who have spoken abt this typa issue and to them it’s also relatively similar to my experience. Ofc ik ppl who feel emotional regarding favoritism, but calling if “the obv way to go” almost encourages it as if it’s okay to neglect a child and love one more than the other bc no matter how normal or often it is, it’s morally wrong.
Overall the idea of favoritism in how u TREAT ur child is sad. U may be used to it or just emotionally detached to this typa situation but I js wanna correct that favoritism may be sorta common depending on ur social life and experiences but that doesn’t make it right.

Sorry, I never meant it in the way of, “this is the right thing to do” absolutely not. As the child that was obviously not the favorite, I have quite a bit of trauma from it. So I don't stand by it at all. It could just be that I draw people to me that have had the same experiences as me. Anyway if it isn’t the norm that would make me like extremely happy cause like, it’s a shitty situation to grow up in. Maybe I just don’t know many people with non traumatic childhoods lmao.
Also just a little side note when I said it was oblivious the way it would go. I meant that it in the context of the story with the assumption that the parents are shitty as fuck. In that situation with those kinds of people. But yeah could have written it better 100%.
True, it is quite extreme, but I have seen it. Don’t take that as a validation for what they are doing, hell no, they are shitty fucking people that deserve the worst. No doubt about that. But when you've seen this kind of situation (the emotional vibe, not the whole killing your brother for inheritance and your parents pretty much blatantly supporting it) multiple times.
