Think to show the bridge gap in this one, they do it to show the character dark and light. two coin shit, its used a fair bit even Citrus does it. this one hard working cant cook such things and he can, doubt she can sew. Even her mom cant cook, just a workoholic that needs to be punished to get the stress out and be taken cared of lol. dont need to read the comments to know the end and the hurdles they have three ends that could happen. also i think he was ment to come off more grumpy than ugly, they use the term grumpy or pissed off to describe him and toads look pissed off, better than over energetic inner thoughts about sex stuff, even this i skip a ton of the though boxes lol it adds nothing for me but time.
the theory i see pitched with ecchi/harem manga in particular is to make them either average af or pathetic af so the average (& pathetic) otaku guys can place themselves in the character's shoes more easily; they're able to project themselves into the story better - but it also totally feels like these guys just think they all deserve a 100/10 when they're not even a 2/10
