This is kinda pissing me off, she took off her makeup up and quickly put on freckles and suddenly shes "ugly"? Its like saying if you Have freckles youre automatically ugly which.. No..this is just toxic beauty standards..the Ml and the nephew arent ugly either..but because they have freckles they are?? WTF
beauty standards, we also have it here in RL, can you imagine how bad it is in an era where you're required to wear corset?

Freckles were seen as very very unattractive in the past. Freckles were prone upon those that were of a certain melanin and were out in the sun. As such if you had freckles you were seen as the working class & poor. This is why those in affluent families would put lemon juice on their skin to whiten the freckles. We still see this in man Asian and even African nations where people will buy whitening cream to lighten their skin and prevent freckles. Think about all those K-pop stars that lighten their skin to meet the beauty standards of today. Now think about when having freckles could mean you living as a spinster. Keep in mind a spinster was 25 years old and had not married yet.
