I'm actually pleasently impressed with the path the author took with Mincheol.

Usually with these plots they make the ex a complete asshole, but also extremely one dimensional. And by extension, it makes the FL absolute fools, weak willed, self-sacrifying and naive ever-victims of their own incapabilities to realize of the toxicity or get out of it. It makes the arc of the FL easier, but way more unrealistic (unless it's a slow burn, like this one) and completely predictable.

Making the ex an actual character, that you can see in his best and in his worst, both through the eyes of the FL as well as his own, is a fresh breath in the sea of plots similar to this. It completely impact the way we think of FL and her reasons to be, think, and act as shi did since the begenning of the story, and also gives us an idea to guess what she may or may not do in the future.

This is the level of engagement with readers that all good storytelling produce.

So kids, remember, all characters reflect on each other, so focusing exclusively on the ML and the "good" guys doesn't make a complete developped story, and will probably be read and forgotten unless you had a shit tonn of world building or good art that carried the comic regardless of the mid characterisation and plot.
