Ep128 finally became free on Korean Naver and it’s confirmed that it’s Lize, Fred’s sister who is allegedly involved with the accident of Serena’s parents and brother. The manhwa panel says it and the Korean reader comments confirm it. Comments wondered why Lize would be involved and some recalled Lize’s history about family debt and attending the ballet school with the hope of a better future.

Another update: the fan translation changed the translation to say ‘Paternal sister’ not paternal aunt. The panel wasn’t updated here.

Kim ChaCha does such a clever job with writing the marital issues of this couple. The bottom line is, BOTH are keeping secrets from each other. Ines has already discovered two of Carcel’s secrets (gun shot wound and contraceptives) and Carcel has discovered one of hers. Now Kim ChaCha has promptly pulled this issue to the forefront and does it in a way that forces this couple to understand how painful secrets are.

Carcel will now understand how much his secret hurt Ines and hopefully Ines will now understand how hurt he will feel that she’s been keeping secrets from him. It’s time to deal with secrets.

    Witchery November 1, 2025 6:45 pm

I feel like that’s true, but they’re not equivalent. Ines is dealing with some supernatural shit that she has zero proof of. She’s struggling to cope with it. Hiding the fact you almost died/got severely injured from your spouse is kind of a big deal no matter what.
Even in a completely healthy relationship with zero trauma, deceiving/lying about birth control is a bombshell. It’s even worse here because she spoke to him about wanting kids and being happy to have them with him. That’s a hell of a slap in the face whether you have trauma or not

If Ines thinks of this situation from only her point of view, then she will NEVER make any progress. How long do readers expect her to stand still and nurse her past trauma? A year, five years, twenty years, a hundred years? Is Ines never expected to learn anything from this situation? Do readers actually want her to grow or not?

Again, this perfectly highlights the double standards with readers. When Ines is in the wrong, Carcel gets blamed. For example, like when she brought home the look-a-like woman. And if Carcel wasn’t blamed for it, then the excuse was Ines has trauma. When Carcel is wrong, Carcel gets blamed and rightly so. But how in the world is Carcel always blamed for everything and is afforded zero understanding by some readers and readers always make excuses for Ines is every single situation? It’s always her trauma as if that’s the only thing that defines her.

Thankfully, the author doesn’t engage in this kind of thinking. Ines will grow and she will learn and she will overcome. She and Carcel need to face this situation by hearing both sides and work to resolve their argument. I’m also grateful that the author will not do a half-assed job with the lessons this couple will learn from this situation.

    Witchery November 1, 2025 8:08 pm

My entire point was that the contraceptive issue would be devastating even if there was zero trauma. Ines does overreact and get triggered because of her trauma, something she needs to address, but this response would have been pretty well justified even if she had zero trauma.
They don’t live in a modern society, so marriage equals babies. If you’re having sex as a married couple, it’s expected you will eventually get pregnant. In most pretechnological societies, even the crude birth control methods available were reserved for prostitutes and mistresses, women the man wouldn’t want to have a child with. From her memories, it’s clear this is the case in their society.
Carcel had good intentions because he was afraid for her health and “trapping”” her in their marriage with a baby. The issue is that he didn’t discuss it with her and let her believe they might have a child soon.
For Ines, becoming able to feel positive about staying with a man permanently and having a child was a huge step in her healing and shows just how much affection and trust she feels for Carcel.
Her reaction just now is the result of a massive scab getting torn open and exposing the original wound. He betrayed a very fragile trust over a significant relationship issue and she could not handle it.
I also don’t think the story is as clear with how much sexual exploitation and abuse she endured in her first marriage to the prince as flashbacks mostly focus on her deaths or how her tragedies affected other people.
Use of birth control meant that she was nothing more than a sexual object in the marriage. She was suffering and enduring sa for a long time and was looking forward to having a child/despising herself for “failing” to birth a healthy baby.
Sure, she starts throwing stuff around and having a panic attack, but other than that, her reactions are totally reasonable/beyond her control. People divorce over stuff like this, one partner going on or off birth control while the other is completely unaware. It’s just not realistic to expect her to react calmly to this, even if this was her very first life

    StoryofMinglan November 1, 2025 8:37 pm

No one is blaming Ines for her reaction. Did I blame her? No. I simply pointed out how they are BOTH keeping secrets and they both need to learn from this situation. I said absolutely nothing about the way she reacted because this is who Ines is. She’s hot-blooded, easily triggered and thinks poorly of men. She even broke Oscar’s leg or body part before.

However, you are already jumping to conclusions. You didn’t even wait to see what’s revealed next chapter. That word ‘trauma’ that you guys revere so much…suppose Carcel has trauma too that you don’t know about? Why is he so afraid of Ines dying in childbirth? There are so many issues this couple need to address:

Suppose Ines and Carcel talk about the issue of having sex while denying her a child?
Suppose Carcel asks her if she’s only having sex with him to get a child?
Suppose Carcel asks her if only a child is important to her and not him?
Suppose Carcel asks her why she fainted way back when and almost died since we know he started to take the contraceptive after she almost died?

Do you get the point now? Is Carcel’s secret the only relevant thing here when he started taking contraceptives because Ines refused to allow Raul to tell Carcel anything about her health? That’s the first secret she needs to clarify otherwise how can he fully believe she’s healthy enough to have a child.

The problem with the view that only Ines’s pov matters is why people get divorced. If only one spouse is the one constantly taking responsibility and apologizing, what does that say about the marriage? This was a problem that started with Ines’s secret which then led to Carcel secretly taking the contraceptive to protect her health because he was uncertain of the root cause of her near death experience. So then both need to be honest with each other and clear up these misunderstandings. Kicking the can down the road resolves nothing.

I didn’t realize people just read stories without forming any reactions or opinions as they go. I don’t get why my opinion is somehow invalid because I impatiently formed a thought before future plot events happened. Always weirdos me out when people get all hyper about “incorrect opinions” that will be proven incorrect infuture plot developments. What am I, a prophet? Tf am I supposed to know how things will develop with new context that hasn’t come out yet? That’s why we form opinions as we read and change them as we get new info <3
Carcel absolutely has trauma in various forms, but that doesn’t excuse him going behind her back like this. Trauma is an explanation, not an excuse. Ines has done many cruel and hurtful things in the name of self preservation and Carcel has been loyal and caring despite it all.
And again, I’m not saying it’s all Carcel’s fault, or that Ines’s secrets aren’t causing problems,

It doesn’t take a prophet to realize these issues exist. Just like Ines can ask if he’s only having sex with her for pleasure, he can ask if she’s only having sex with him to get a child. Their current argument is a culmination of many issues that they never properly addressed. That’s why my original point is that both sides are keeping secrets and now they have to begin to face them. The only new topic I introduced in my previous comment is the possibility that Carcel might have a trauma and that’s why he’s so afraid of Ines dying in childbirth. All other points raised are things that have also been discussed previously by other manhwa readers around the time Carcel sent Raul to buy contraceptives and again around the hunting trip. This argument is long anticipated by many manhwa readers who kept asking when Ines is going to find out. There are readers who see both sides of the issue and rather than taking sides, want them to communicate to resolve the issue.

The context of the situation:
Ines was pregnant with their third and last child. She and Carcel were separated by her choice and they had sex one night and she got pregnant even though he used contraceptives. Since they were separated, he didn’t know she was pregnant and Ines made sure to hide her pregnancy from him and her family by going to a different part of the country to live. She was already seriously ill and she knew the risk of giving birth. She was willing to die to give birth to this last child and she hoped that child will live on in the world as proof of her and Carcel’s love.

Unfortunately, she returned to Mendoza for an event and fainted while at the event. Carcel was there and took her home to the Valeztenas where she was staying since they were separated. There the doctor attended her and they found out she was pregnant. They also got the difficult news that it’s highly likely she’ll die giving birth. Ines’s father wanted to make the decision to abort the child but Carcel said he would make the decision instead and take that sin upon himself.

Why was her family and Carcel not willing to risk Ines’s life? Because the other two children that Ines gave birth to had died. They were poisoned to death but Ines and Carcel didn’t know it at this point of the story. Anyway, both deaths were very painful for Ines and Carcel and one can say the deaths of their children is why Ines demanded a divorce from Carcel since he was the heir and needed an heir. Ines was also deeply mentally abused by her mother in the first timeline so her psychology was complicated and it’s compounded by her stubbornness. Carcel begged her not to divorce him since he can make his younger brother his heir. Ines refused this option and wanted him to find a wife that can give him children and a better life. Carcel, of course, refused and stayed faithful to the end.

Anyway, when Ines woke up, Carcel told her the child was gone. That’s when she said those hurtful things to Carcel that we see at the beginning of this ep. Despite all of this, the reader knows they truly loved each other. At the time, all of Mendoza and maybe even Carcel thought only Carcel loved Ines and his love was unrequited. That’s why even in this current timeline (the 4th TL), the crown prince, who has his first TL memories, never believed that Ines would fall for Carcel because all of the nobles in Mendoza in the first timeline thought Ines didn’t love Carcel.

After Ines tells Carcel never to appear before her again, they separate for a long time. He went back to Calztela and went to many battles. She went to a far part of the country to die. However, we know they reunited because we already saw she died in the little house in Calztela.

That’s because Apostle Anastasio (the priest attending her bedside in ep96) granted Ines’s wish to die if Carcel dies. Since Carcel died on the battlefield, Ines died at the same time.

Yes. The novel is written in progressive revelation. Just like no one knew in the beginning that Carcel was Ines’s FIRST husband. The reader only finds out these revelations according as Ines and Carcel discover them. In fact, the Korean novel is written as streams of consciousness where the reader knows the personal thoughts of Carcel and Ines. Yes Carcel is the first husband and the one meant to be her husband. This was revealed since ep95 through this latest chapter. It was also revealed in Bilbao via the memories of Oscar that Oscar received where Oscar was mocking Carcel about how he tormented Carcel’s beloved wife…meaning, Ines was originally Carcel’s wife,

It’s Oscar who contributed to derailing their fate when they got a second chance. Since Oscar had memories of the first timeline, he used his memories to manipulate Ines by deceiving her that he’s a good guy. He couldn’t keep up the act after they were married and he made Ines’s his wife.

So now Carcel and Ines finally got their true second chance. That’s why the author named the manhwa, THE BROKEN RING. The ring that was broken is Ines and Carcel’s marriage. Now that ring can be mended since they are back together.

    The reasoning is basically this:

As explained in Bilbao, when a person dies an unpredestined death, they get a second chance to live to correct their fate or, said another way, to fulfill their fate and meet their true death.

For example, obviously all the other characters like Carcel and Ines’s parents, Carcel’s brother, Miguel and Ines’s brother are living out their true fate every timeline. It’s Carcel and Ines who have not been living out their true fate and haven’t met their predestined deaths.

Everything went wrong when a villainess destroyed Ines and Carcel’s life in the first true timeline. They both died outside their predestined death. Therefore, Anastasio gave them a second chance to live to correct their fate just like Emiliano explained in Bilbao that he received another chance to live to meet his predestined death.

The second chance that Ines and Carcel received was the timeline where Ines married Oscar. If Oscar didn’t have memories, he would not have had the chance make Ines fall for him. Chances are, everyone would have lived out their true fate.

But, because Oscar had memories, he interfered with Ines and Carcel’s fate. This led to Ines falling into Oscar’s hands and Ines eventually committing suicide which made her automatically regress. Then Ines who had memories then interfered with Emiliano’s true fate. Then she committed suicide again and automatically regressed.

This time, after she regressed, she unwittingly chose the correct path by choosing her first husband again who has always been her true fate.

So, it’s not really a matter of living many lives. It’s unnatural to live many lives. It’s just someone originally twisted her fate and she ended up living several lives in order to correct her fate. Once she fulfills her true fate and meet her predestined death, the cycle of repeated lives will end.

Is Carcel’s behavior really that incomprehensible? Imagine how he must have felt when he remembered all the horrible things he heard from Oscar’s treatment of Ines? This is a woman whom he holds more precious than anything in the world. Is it so hard to understand how much his heart breaks for her?

Then after meeting her in her current self, after learning all those nightmare things about her, he avoided her eyes because he said he felt that he would break down crying, which he eventually does. Then we saw he took a bath then went to read his Bible. Why? Because he was seeking answers from God to understand why his woman had to endure so much heartache.

Ines met him reading the Bible and he had clearly calmed down after reading Ecclesiastics. He and Ines talked and he honestly tells her his heart is breaking for her and he’s afraid he’ll hurt her. Next we see that he and Ines agreed to stay in Calztela for as long as possible then he’ll go to Mendoza with her. We also saw that he and Ines became intimate as she told him she wants to have a child. In other words, they were back to their normal selves.

Next day Carcel went to work early because of the Admiral’s visit. When he returns home, he finds Ines waiting for him and he’s elated by it. Fundamentally, Carcel is an easygoing person. He grieved for all the things he remembered but one truth prevails and it’s that Ines came back into his arms and he has the power to protect her, cherish her and love her preciously.

So, is his behavior that incomprehensible these last episodes? Do humans have one emotion every single day?

NO. Ines is not ready to know that Carcel knows about her past. He remembers her saying in ep69 that one day soon she will tell him everything. Even from Ines pov, she’s not ready for Carcel to know her past. I don’t think readers understand the guilt she feels over killing her own child. She also blames herself for leading an innocent man to his death. Then there’s the part with Oscar that would be difficult for her to reveal.

Ines doesn’t yet realize that Carcel’s love is so unconditional, so eternal and so beyond anything she’s ever experienced. She actually thinks that Carcel wouldn’t continue to love her if he finds out about her ‘sins’.

Inés’s words in ep69 (copied from speech bubbles):

SO PLEASE, GIVE ME A LITTLE TIME... WHEN I'M ABLE TO COME TO TERMS WITH IT, THEN... ...I'LL TELL YOU EVERYTHING. SOMEDAY, I'LL FULLY OPEN UP TO YOU ...

——————
From the above, it’s Inés who needs to introduce the topic of her past. Cárcel is doing the right thing by waiting for her to open up to him.
