Using the new abridged information given in this chapter, we learn the following about what happened at the port in Sevilla and how Emiliano ended up dying:

1. Carcel found Ines before the soldiers sent by the crown prince and Luciano and his soldiers. (See end of ep19 when Ines asked in her thoughts why did Carcel help Emiliano and there’s a flashback to Carcel in uniform on the pier in the night in Sevilla standing before the fugitive couple.)

Ep19 - Pages 30 - 31
https://www.mangago.zone/read-manga/the_broken_ring_this_marriage_will_fail_anyway/uu/br_chapter-118640/pg-30/

2. Carcel puts up Ines, her child and Emiliano in a safe house for the night since soldiers were everywhere looking for them in the vicinity

3. Ines was hostile to Carcel at first thinking he was there on the crown prince’s orders to retrieve her.

4. Carcel had actually been tasked by the crown prince with finding Ines years before but didn’t bother. He stayed in Calztela living his life and doing his duty.

5. Carcel decided to find Ines only after an imperial order was issued and soldiers sent out to find her.

6. The imperial family and nobles wanted Ines brought back and punished with her family for humiliating the imperial family

7. Carcel saved Emiliano’s life twice.

8. At some point, Emiliano and Carcel were alone and he asks Carcel for a favor. He asks him to retrieve the pendant from the jeweler and give it to Ines. It’s the pendant her pawned to cover medical bill for their sick child. He’ll leave the place with the child.

9. Carcel asks him why would he leave without Ines after going through all this trouble and Emiliano answers pretty much about the same thing in this chapter about Ines living a better life.

10. After Emiliano runs back to Ines in that dangerous situation where the soldiers were still looking for them everywhere and he got caught.

11. That’s why in Ep. 11, Ines’s narrative said:
Emiliano managed to escape for a short while with the help of another person (Carcel)…but in the end he returned on his own two feet to die before her very eyes (see manhwa panel) https://www.mangago.zone/read-manga/the_broken_ring_this_marriage_will_fail_anyway/uu/br_chapter-103432/pg-4/

12. This is why present day Emiliano asks Carcel to tell Ines to blame him for the child’s death. He thinks if he had stuck to the plan he arranged with Carcel, then Ines wouldn’t have been burdened with the child and he could have raised the child himself. It’s all explained in the novel. This also explains why he was apologetic to Carcel for making his efforts to save him twice come to nothing.

Edit: corrected info.

Did the manhwa skip all of this or was it the same in the novel where we were we supposed to decipher it from clues as well?

    Here is the conversation:

Carcel: Later, as soon as the wound recovers, go to Sevilla and take Inés and the child. Not right now. Cause they came all the way to Calztela.

    Emiliano: Lady Inés....

Carcel: She's at a hideout in Sevilla.

Present Day Emiliano: I killed the child. I betrayed the grace you had given us, when I went back there and got caught."

Emiliano: May I dare ask you for one more favor?

Carcel: It's not enough to save you?

Emiliano: I'm sorry... but I have no one but you to ask.

    Carcel: Say it.

He asks Carcel to find the pendant as the jeweler/pawn shop and deliver it to Ines.

Carcel: How can I deliver it to your wife? I won't even know where you guys will live by then.

Emiliano: We'll probably be separated soon...

Carcel: You're breaking up after all this difficulty? I'm amazed.

Emiliano: Lady Inés will soon return to where she was.

    Carcel: Then you.

Emiliano: I'11 probably take our child away far away. Peral, anywhere. To a very far place....... A place where I can't hurt Lady Inés.’

Ines finally appears next chapter. Remember the last time we saw her, she had fainted on the busy streets of the shopping district in Mendoza after receiving a vision of her death and while dying she was dreaming of she and Carcel by the shore of the lake in Esposa.

StoryofMinglan August 2, 2025 11:56 am

I’m utterly amazed how Carcel as a character is often called stupid by some readers and the characters who made dumb decisions are somehow called smart. The latter kind of characters only learned after they already made HUGE mistakes rather than thinking things through before acting on them. It seems that unless the story spells it out explicitly, some readers cannot figure this out.

This all started because Carcel found out his wife of 1 year had been plotting for 17 years behind his back to divorce him so he decided he wanted to grant her long held wish. Then there is the guy who left the pendant for her to find. Using those two facts, Carcel concluded they still wanted to be together. Right on the spot, unlike the stupid couple from the previous timeline, he already thought of a way they can escape together out of the reach of the crown prince. He decided he would buy a title and mansion in another country for them, they can leave Ortega and he will deal with Oscar.

While I don’t agree with Carcel’s decision, I don’t see why he gets lambasted for daring to think of divorcing Ines when Ines spent 17 years of her life plotting to divorce him behind his back.

StoryofMinglan July 28, 2025 2:15 am

LOL People who claim Emiliano is the BEST man for Ines must be reading a different story or have been reading this story with their eyes closed. That’s not surprising though. Just look at the overwhelmingly ridiculous reaction to Carcel trying to make Ines’s original wish come true. But let’s remember some Facts:

Carcel has only been married to Ines for a mere year. Ines set out to divorce him after 17 years of plotting. That automatically means she had NO INTENTION of falling for him much less loving him. Even up to ep 50s, she was still plotting against Carcel. But even in the midst of setting him up, why did she run down the hall to open the door when Carcel was in the room with the woman she herself invited into their home? It’s because as incompetent as the Manhwa adaptation has been in showing how Ines’s heart has already begun to love him, readers with comprehension skills would at least recognize there was something going on in her heart. That’s because Ines couldn’t help loving Carcel in spite of her head and her schemes.

For the record, Carcel is the only man she wasn’t open to loving. With the other two before, she never had her heart closed to them.

And for those who can’t read, back in ep 65, Ines came to this conclusion because of Carcel:

Ines decided she wants to live differently. She wants to do the things she used to love before like hunting and horseback riding and she wants to do them with Carcel. Then she began to shed tears:

Ines meeting her old self before Oscar ruined her and before she became a fugitive on the run and living in poverty. Ines now wants to reclaim her old self that loved to do those things which is powerfully drawn by the artist:

I know people who don’t actually understand this story will claim Ines only ends up with Carcel because of fate but I can’t wait for all the declarations ahead where Ines comes right out and states Carcel is her man and he belongs to her and she belongs to him. Then again, people who don’t understand this story can even misinterpret that.

The main story covers two years of marriage. Let’s see who Ines will open her heart to and share her burdens with in honesty. She spent four years with Emiliano and Emiliano didn’t even know she was married to Oscar before. So much for being the man with whom she can share her deepest secrets and burdens. Ines obviously didn’t reveal her secrets to him. Let’s see if Ines will ever actually confess everything to Carcel in their two years of marriage by the end of the main story.

StoryofMinglan July 27, 2025 10:17 am

Ines plotting for 17 years behind Carcel’s back to divorce him in episodes 1 - 55. She even goes as far as bringing a strange woman into the house to seduce her husband.

Comments section: She’s a girlboss. I hope she gets her divorce. She’s so smart. I support her and make excuses for everything she does. She’s never wrong.

Carcel finally putting the clues together to discover the woman he married had been plotting to divorce him for 17 whole years and therefore wants to grant her wish that she poured more than half her life into.

Comments section: He’s so dumb. He needs to be slapped in the head by the man who last timeline couldn’t even stick to a proper decision and was going to abandon Ines anyway. Yeah, Carcel is the dumbest ML ever because he has decided to do as the wife he married plotted for years and wanted.

Omg this! That’s good reminder. I was also thinking like a lot of people that Carcel was doing something dumb but now that you reminded us. I 100% get why he’s decided that. Ines why wanting this that whole time, my guy is only obliging her with what she’s been plotting the whole time.

StoryofMinglan July 26, 2025 5:53 pm

Remember when Ines was plotting to divorce Carcel from as early as ch 18 through 55?Remember when she kept justifying she was doing it for his own good as well? In fact, she spent 17 years, almost two decades, plotting to divorce Carcel.

So now that Carcel finally discovered her plan, why can’t he decide for her (like she decided for him), to grant her wish? It’s not like I agree with his plan but I also have to admit that Ines was plotting behind his back for almost 20 years and he didn’t have a clue. Wasn’t that deciding his life for him which also included a scandalous divorce that nobles never do since they rather murder their spouse than divorce their spouse?

Well, thankfully, now that Carcel knows Ines’s original plan, it won’t be swept under the rug. It’s the elephant in the room that is supposed to be addressed this season.

    No_Name1123 July 26, 2025 7:08 pm

I agree. I don’t agree with carcel’s decision but I’m confused why everyone’s acting like carcel is overriding Ines and taking away her right to make decisions when Ines not too long ago wanted just that and has been making all the decisions for both of them for a while now.

StoryofMinglan July 26, 2025 4:32 pm

Not sure why anyone would blame Carcel for not confessing his love to an engaged or married woman in previous timelines.

Crown princess TL: Ines was engaged to Oscar before she was 6 years old. Besides the fact that Carcel and Ines are exactly the same age (he’s about four months older than her), Carcel spent that TL convincing himself he was not in love with Ines. Personally I believe part of that was because Oscar was tormenting him repeatedly about Ines and he didn’t understand why. After all, when they were kids, Ines treated him like a rival and nothing more. Ines even admit when they were toddlers, they didn’t like each other much. Despite all this, why would Carcel confess to a girl who is engaged to be married to the crown prince and seems happy with him? Should he do like those second MLs everywhere who must selfishly confess their feelings when the girl doesn’t even care? Carcel is not that type of man.

Runaway TL: The first 16 years is a repeat of the Crown Princess TL. Why should Carcel confess his love to a happily engaged girl? Ines went from engaged and happy with Oscar to her regressed self running away with a stranger. Carcel has nothing to do with any of that so why should he be blamed for her tragedies?

Also, Ines has always been the one to choose in every TL.

StoryofMinglan July 26, 2025 4:17 pm

Next chapter will show that in the previous TL, when Carcel helped Ines and saved Emiliano, Emiliano told Carcel that Ines should be with a nobleman like him. The manhwa only said it once but in the novel it’s said in more details. When Emiliano said he will leave the country, Carcel even tells him how could he come this far then want to abandon Ines. So those who are berating Carcel for wanting to give up Ines because he thinks he’s granting her wish, I hope you will recognize next ch that Emiliano was also going to abandon Ines for her sake.

StoryofMinglan July 26, 2025 3:39 pm

Since Carcel just found out Ines married him mainly to divorce him, I can somewhat understand why he wants to give Ines what he erroneously believes was her goal. After all, he’s a man who thinks foremost about her happiness and wants to give her whatever would make her happy because in his book, her happiness is everything. Frankly, he knew all along that something wasn’t right with Inés (her utter indifference before marriage and the way she tried to get him to cheat with the crazy lady after they were already married) and he pretty much intuitively understood right away when he saw Emiliano and the memories came to him.

HOWEVER, Carcel is completely wrong about Ines’s goal and feelings in this life. Ines’s goal was to live safely without making any more mistakes until the day she can meet her natural death and rest eternally. That goal is still the same but she modified it to live as long as possible at Carcel’s side until she can die her natural death and rest eternally. She was and still is determined never to meet Emiliano again. So while Carcel is here writing fan fiction in his head about Ines’s presumed feelings, Ines has a completely different heart and goal for her life.

While Emiliano is acting like Carcel is out of his mind, Carcel knows full well Emiliano left ‘that stupid necklace’, as Carcel called it last chapter, for Ines to find. He’s concluded that Emiliano wanted Ines to find him. So, Carcel is not pulling stuff out of the air. Ines, who wanted to divorce him and Emiliano who left the pendant that almost killed Ines…draw a picture in Carcel’s mind.
