This is absolutely gut-wrenching. I almost regret reading it because it’s not good for my heart—but at the same time, I love it. The depth of the characters and everything else is just incredible

hi can you tell me what it’s about? even just briefly uh huh

It's about a Northern guy—the male lead—who’s seeking revenge for his parents, killed by the Sun Witch. His goal was simple: reach the royal family. But everything changed when he was summoned by a mysterious noble, whose face and identity were hidden, to cure a strange illness.

During his stay, he met a maid named Kaia. Or so he thought. Unbeknownst to him, Kaia was the mysterious noble—and also the Sun Witch he had vowed to destroy. They fell in love. She wanted to tell him the truth, but couldn’t bring herself to do it. Her love for him made it too hard.

Time skip. When the medicine supply was suddenly cut off, he set out for the North to find it, joined by Kaia’s knight. Meanwhile, back at the palace, Kaia waited with the supporting character, Therion, who stayed by her side. But her condition worsened. On the day the sun set red, she was in unbearable pain. Grabbing Therion’s collar, she begged him not to tell Elkin (the male lead).

Therion—a spy planted by his uncle—was slowly putting together the truth he’d been investigating: the real identity of the Sun God, the supposed hero of the war against the Northern people. Caught between loyalty and truth, he finally chose to side with his uncle.

Inside the Emperor’s chambers, his uncle decided to assassinate the Emperor. This was the breaking point for Therion—caught in a storm of duty, guilt, and doubt.

As the plan to frame the Sun God for treason unfolded, Therion rushed to the palace. There, he met Elkin. Desperate, he pulled him aside and urged him to run and take Kaia with him. Elkin, stunned and confused, hesitated. But Therion, unable to keep it in any longer, revealed Kaia’s true identity.

Betrayal. Rage. Heartbreak. Elkin pointed a dagger at Kaia.

She didn’t flinch—she knew he wouldn’t kill her. Before the knights could arrest them for treason, Elkin grabbed her and jumped from the tower.

Huge time skip (I’m lazy to explain).

They escaped and began a journey to Elkin’s hometown, searching for more of Kaia’s medicine. And blah blah blah.

Along the way, we get to see the pasts of Therion, Elkin, and Kaia unfold.

I recommend reading it on Mangahub for the full chapters. I won’t spoil the ending or major twists—but if you want me to tell you the spoilers, I don’t mind.

I can't bear seeing her love ones die, but I'm a sucker for angst. UGHHHH tears were flodding while I kept reading.

Was hoping for more tbh, the ending was slightly disappointing. The plot could've been better if it had more explanation about the curse, and the ways of lifting it.
