Nah, I pointed out that line one coz some of my uncles were in the military (he's an ass tbh), then his son went in there as well, two years later, he never wanted to go back. Heard complaints of power abuse and whatnot as well as a few horrendous things. Reports just resulted to verbal sermons but mostly just ignored. His dad said he's acting too much of a pansy and then started the "back in my day" thingo. Worst thing we heard in his monologue is sexual harassment and abuse, yes, we go the the "r-word" zone, and how they were told to just deal with it and man up like it's just a mosquito bite.
TLDR, knew people who experienced it, knew people who saw worse than it, got hit by the "back in my day" in the end.
Either way it still happens, I don't think it's that common anymore considering the updated military rules and stuff, tho it will still depends on the ranking of the abusing officer. (And then there's also the varying cultures of different countries, so we don't know how it goes for others.)

I have read the novel, and even though it’s kinda regrettable that we can’t see the tension during the ‘death sentence’ at the podium, or when Edith was ready to die, or when Rise was trying to cause trouble again in the dungeon, I’m kinda glad with some of the alterations. Especially when the duchess realized that her son, Cliff, and her favorite girl, Rise, are douchebags. In the novel, it frustrates me so much that the duchess was kept in the dark about Rise’s atrocities and still hoped Edith would be nice to Rise..like ughhhh. I want to see her miserable!
I agree. i feel like tried to keep a balance but ultimately it became more watered down. The novel was more tragic but had some things that felt underwhelming (Cliff and Rize’s ending, the duchess not knowing what happened etc etc) & I think the manhwa might be trying to go for a softer approach which imo also kind of ruins the plot by a bit especially since the novel’s part for the execution was so wonderfully executed (heh). I feel like if they kept the novel’s tragedy and changed some parts only it would’ve been so good
True, the novel has more depth to it. I actually cried so hard when I was reading the current arc in the novel. The pain! My poor Edith （/TДT)/.
But maybe because of that, I don’t have much to say about this adaptation… I think I unconsciously don’t want to see ‘the pain’ being illustrated. Then again, I just hope they included more of Edith’s narration and her feelings during the execution. Nevertheless, the one thing I need the most and hope will change from the novel is, to see Rize being punished (╯°Д °)╯╧╧
