most times they do feel remorse but cant stop themselves. so then they come up with excuses as to "why" they do what they do. Its really a viscous circle. A lot of times the person who is abused feels like Yumi in the story where they put up with it because the other person tells them that they love them. the author did a good job portraying domestic abuse.
