Idk why y'all liked minhyuk...I mean they are ALL twisted here but his innocent looking face is even more concerning. I just get those vibes from him.. I don't care about him having sex with whoever..that's not the issue, he just seems suspicious.

I mean I don't care about him sleeping around and yes when he put his hands on sooyoung still bothers the hell out of me and that's probably when I actually started finding him more troublesome. Bcz he can do that shit again, he is twisted. This is a very mafia plot so yes majority of the stuff going here is gonna be morally and legally wrong.

Ahhh of course, the "assault ur friend cz u have piled up frustration" trope, let's see what happens next

I don’t understand why authors keep using it!!! It speaks a lot to the trauma of the authors as Japanese women and the way sexual assault is minimized, romanticized, and fetishized in Japan. They barely report and some that do get harassed by the police and zero help and sent away. Plus they still have a very conservative mindset about gender roles and are very misogynistic with a horrible lacking in terms of civil rights for their women. They are allowed to fire them for getting pregnant or even for getting married (because they believe they will either quit, move with the husband if he gets sent away for his job, and because they don’t want pregnant employees or new mothers). You should see how badly their attempts at the me too movement went. It’s like America several decades ago.

Over the period of all these years, I have read a lot of mangas be it shoujo, shonen or yaoi and yes I do see that they romanticize a lot of stuff that normally shouldn't be accepted. To a point where I started getting uncomfortable with the idea of the ridiculous "kabedons".
I had no idea about the work life culture there and it's so frustrating to see such backward thinking. I think a lot of asian countries deal with this outdated way of living.
I stopped caring about all this bcz it got so normalised in yaoi but sometimes even I can't control my irritation. They throw this assault trope just anywhere giving a bad taste to the story. And that too an LGBTQ+ person assaulingt a 'straight' person, while in reality it's the opposite that happens.

That’s actually a very big trope/fear in Japan. They stereotype gay people as predatory. That’s a big part of the metaphor in yuri kuma arashi (and anime about lesbians in Japan and the stereotype of predatory lesbians and japans bullying and homophobic culture). It’s directed by somebody who has been in writing queer characters into anime since pretty much the beginning and has always explored queer characters in a meaningful way. Director Kunihiko ikuhara responsible for utena, a lot of the sailor moon anime, Marwari penguin drum, yuri kuma arashi, and sarazanmai. Japan still very much has the belief that it’s wrong but they don’t mind what people do behind closed doors but that those people do not deserve the same rights such as marriage. If you’re gay or trans they don’t want you to talk about it and think you should keep it to yourself and not show it visibly. Same for mental health. They’re far behind in civil rights and most people don’t know they actually have a powerful far right movement as well and that their prime minister is very conservative and their Conservative party holds a lot of power. Even allies say problematic things like love is love/love who you want BUT don’t look at me that way! It’s sad considering they produce so much queer content that queer foreigners want and use as representation. If you want a good lgbt author try the author of shimanai tasogare, they’re non binary and have wittten beautiful lgbtq works that give an insight into Japan’s mentality and life as a real lgbt person in Japan.

Wow, this is very informative. Thank you. Also I have read shimanai tasogare and I definitely loved it so much. I'll try more of the authors work. Thanks for recommending. I also remember reading an article about what's living in Japan like and I read that they are very protective of their age old culture, which is definitely not wrong but they are protective to the point of not letting go the wrong cultural values. I must say this is such a common thing in most of the Asian countries. I am south asian and I can say that homophobia, patriarchy etc are so deeply rooted. Although the youth like me is more open and accepting and willing to change and the LGBTQ community in my country are slowly coming forward.
Give Yuji a damn break... Does he even get to sleep or what?!;;?
