I agree. I believe he isn't seen as "Richard" he's just seen as "the crown prince" or "the child that killed the beloved queen" his father didn't seem like he was very present in Richard's life after the queen died also (I'm assuming) especially when Richard misbehaved.
From that one scene in his flashback?? Definitely.
