Its not as simple as saying "you can't save anyone if you're overworked!" Or tired, and whatnot as literally a second he's not in action equates to the deaths of hundreds of people, he otherwise could've saved (not to mention in his experience, complancency or even a minute of time to spend with his family literally resulted in a genocide). He literally cannot afford to rest, despite how stupid as it seems to us. So, what he's hearing from the MC is not to simply just "rest and leave it to the others" but rather "let them all die".
And even though there's a good amount of hunters who are competent or at least the same rank like Esther, no one can measure up to his work ethic and his contributions to the lives saved (not to mention from his viewpoint if he can do the job of 50 hunters, why risk the lives of 50 other people). People aren't statistics, and he knows this. He's definitely been conditioned by the pressures that come with being the so-called "number 1".
Hopefully, he'll stop blaming himself and start to trust others once he sees how "strong" the MC is, then the burden of being the strongest will he taken off his shoulders.

Im interested in the younger brother's angle because its clear that he's transmigrator/reincarnator similar to the MC (And that they may have known longer than the MC). Especially because everyone thus far in the MC's memories have had a lookalike in the novel, like its obvious that the Sunbae in the MC's memories is the ML, and even his bestfriend in the novel looks and acts like his bestfriend in his memories (short hair, energetic personality, etc).
So, theres a chance that the younger brother could actually be an reincarnation of his sister? It makes sense especially because she was the one who introduced him to the bl novel, and the fact that the younger brother knew the title and knew the role the MC played in it which contributed to his fear and hatred towards the ML who led his brother to suicide in the original. And maybe thats the brother/sister is heavily protective over the MC's character because they're projecting the memories of their actual brother onto him, unknowing that that's their actual brother.
If this theory is true it'd just mean that the MC actually cussed out the person he's longing for the most, so uh. (￣∇￣")

Currently in chap 75, and I really liked the class president just bc her and the MC spent a good time together, albeit off-screen. And she had a very bittersweet existence, in which she clearly had feelings for the MC, and wanted to some extent monopolise him for herself but also wanted him to pursue his passions. The scene where she shoos all the girls away from giving him their handkerchiefs because the MC was uncomfortable, while simultaneously having a handkerchief in her hands that she failed to give him out of embarrassment was just... painful.
Because she is consciously aware that he's just out of her league, so she doesn't even want to try. There not much about her in the story for her to be FL, but I really don't want that handkerchief scene to be the last of her.
Edit: nvm, she appeared again, am very happy the author didn't forget her.
I think this story has lots of potential and maybe it differs from the novel (haven't read), but it just feels like all the character introductions are rushed and half-assed. They're building up Gilbert to be this big bad whom the MC absolutely despises but instead of showing all the shitty things he's done, they just tell us, and it makes the MC's treatment of him feel less justified.
Also, the story starts in the middle which is such an odd choice because it means they have to keep doing exposition to explain what tf is going on. The MC's family was in debt and she had to work her ass off to be pay it back and become a socialite, is there going to be an arc about that? No? Just a couple panels? Okay. The MC has the villainess humping her leg like a chihuahua, gonna show us how this happened? No? Okay.
This story is just really off to a bad start in terms of quality—but maybe it settles a bit more in the middle? Also, if Gilbert is such a bad person and the ML is his father, wouldn't that be reflective of the ML given that he raised him??? Idk, it seems like the villainess' future actions against the MC (tormenting her, faking friendship, and sleeping with her husband) was brushed off on the basis of girl power rather than Gilbert's manipulation, because you could argue that Gilbert is as much a victim of his father as the villainess is to him? Not saying thats justified, don't mean to Gilbert glaze as he is genuinely unpleasant. But the story does a poor job of differentiating why the villainess gets preferential treatment, because it seems her og self geniuinely liked tormenting the MC similarly to Gilbert.
Or are there other circumstances regarding their relationship? Like Gilbert getting adopted later in life like when he was already an adult? Regardless, it doesn't seem like him and the ML have an amicable relationship. Either way the pacing sucks and the characters feel shallow, sorry thats my yap (￣∇￣")
