I agree, the mangaka could've shown how the main characters develop and establish proper foundation to their relationship and make a distinction over real and the android version of their partner. Like extending the story wherein we'll be able to see what difficulties they may have faced (because the android they fell in love with is different from the real one), also nice to have seen them fall in love with who rui/mashiro truly are.
As much as i love3some but alpha is not my cup of tea.

That was not the afterlife, he was dreaming of a past he couldve had. So basically everything that happened in his dreams happened in his real life when he was young except for the sexy times and going out with each other. Theyve been in love the whole time in real life but they never confessed to each other so its just been mutual pining for years where kunimi tried to forget about gaku but couldnt.
