I mean I agree but also… that’s the point? He kept getting his heart broken and had severe abandonment issues because his old partners were pieces of shit. The lover probably either kept it from him until he had already fallen in love or manipulated him into not pushing it. Him taking the step to actually break up with his partner because of it is good and shows his character a lot more than “oh hes a piece of crap”
