I think it's not the polygamy that bothers people, but in this case it's more of the plot development that lead to it. It seems kind of forced imo. The plot started out with each having their own issues and how their get together with the others would help them change. This kind of got lost in the end, like what's the point of all the introduction if it's just about 2 guys fighting over a guy in the end.
