Right?! I got your sarcasm. This was far from smut and it barely counts as yaoi since a bare ass isn't considered risqué enough to be restricted. There are no genitals - censored or uncensored - were there? I don't remember any. And there was no explicit portrayals of a sex scene. Sex was implied and never actually shown. So, yeah, this qualifies as shounen ai by publishers standards.
It is kinda like the "All poodles are dogs, but not all dogs are poodles" analogy. All yaoi is BL, but not all BL is yaoi. You can also compare yaoi/BL to wine/grape juice. They come from the same source - male homosexual romance/grapes - but one is restricted to adults - yaoi/wine - and the other is not restricted at all.
Don't feel bad. Sarcasm is difficult to distinguish in text because it is contextual and we are accustomed to distinguishing it through inflections in the voice when it is spoken. I only understood the OC because I was thinking the same thing when I happened to see the "smut" tag.
