I dont get why author bothered showing his background and past at all
Maybe so that we’d get more understanding of his character?? I don’t think the author is trying to redeem him all that much, but is showing us why he ended up being such an asshole. What he did to Dan isn’t ok but we can see where his btchass personality comes from.
