I really like when stories play with the idea of an elven life. They live an absurd amount of time- far longer than similar races (like dwarves) and are probably only outlived by beings like spirits/dragons/world trees. My favorite fantasy concept tbh- aside from authurian tales of magic.. even though I cry EVERY TIME one of their human companions dies from age. (the best/well written example for me is “Growing Tired of the Lazy High Elf Life After 120 Years” IK THAT TITLE IS FUNNY BUT ITS SO GOOD.. and “Sousou no Frieren“ is also good it’s more shounen-y)

I can understand a level of “overprotective-ness” because of the way he had to grow up (surrounded by shitty ass adults and nobles who would sooner stab him in the back then help him) but he deadass *loves* his own sister. and she likes him back? spirits don’t possess the- ethics/morals that humans have because they’re fundamentally different.
I think the majority of the time spirits don’t care about humans other than their contractors. humans are ants, to a spirit why should a spirit care about some humans dying? a spirit probably can’t even tell humans apart- they all look the same. as long as the contractor is happy the spirit would probably gladly cause an apocalyptic flood if it means their contractors “problems” would go away.
