I think it's because of this weird dynamic between them and how their interactions are portrayed by the author -> they seem awkward and quite fake. But the plot in itself is quite nice indeed, the thought behind the story and characters too

For me I'd say 7 range and below but I've never found anything below 7, but even then, some 7.5 and up aren't bad.
