i don't think alek and ivan were a thing...i think alek used the situation to have ivan depend on him to feel superior. alek was always seen badly by their family after all and was jealous of ivan so i think that when the family rejected ivan, alek could've been happy cuz the child who never had to work for anything now would understand how miserable he felt all those years
