The lack of girl-kisser characters in here is a bit disappointing, but there are a lot of beautiful, NON-SEXUALISED, badass and actually useful women to simp over TRUST (for example Hiyuki, Kiri, Uran, Sumi - you can google them, they're all peak characters); anyway I'm pretty bad at explaining plots (lowkey I can make the most well-written, greatest piece of literature seem like a boring ahh story BUT BELIEVE ME THIS IS ACTUALLY PEAK, JUST READ UNTIL THE CHIHIRO VS SOJO ARC AT LEAST even if my description sounds kind of lame), but here goes:
Story is set in a world where sorcery exists. The MC, Chihiro, is an 18-year old aspiring blacksmith/swordsmith whose father Kunishige forged 6 powerful swords from a rare type of ore and enchanted with sorcery that was pivotal in ending a war between Japan and Shokoku, an island nation, years prior to the beginning of the story. A mysterious syndicate of sorcerers, the Hishaku, kill Kunishige and steal the swords for their own. Chihiro, who was present when his dad was murdered, swears to avenge his death and reclaim the stolen swords by using the 7th forged sword no one knew about, but one that is capable of destroying the other swords.
Some themes that are explored in the manga include: revenge, grief, generational trauma, the burden of responsibility and using your power, good vs. evil, morality and personal identity, war and war crimes (genocide), creating and using weapons of mass destruction, the cost of violence, legacy, abuse (mostly abuse by family), anti-colonialism and propaganda (through the Japan-Shokoku war), political commentary on the glorification of national heroes (through the sword bearers). That there are multiple ways to interpret historical figures, their motives and their beliefs, etc. etc.
IT'S REALLY GOOD, HONESTLY, there's great art (earlier chapters are a bit rough around the edges but it gets better and better), AMAZING fight choreography, characters are written realistically imo and many of them are actually flawed individuals, both the good guys and the bad guys, it's fujoshi and shipping friendly if you're into those lol, and most importantly GORGEOUS WOMEN!! I SIMP!!
