Mc was a bystander and watched ML get bullied by his friends during their school years and never stepped in. ML guilt tripped the MC into hanging out with him 5 times as an apology. Im under the assumption that ML always liked MC which is why he's tweaking so hard about his plan to spend time together didnt work as intended (guessing he wanted mc to fall for him in that time). ML has sort of a revenge plot going on where he wants the MC to fall for him both to sate his long term affection but also to make him feel extra guilty for not stepping in when he was bullied.
I could be wrong that ML liked him since school, it was hinted at kind of but its been so long since I read the flashbacks that I might be misremembering. But I do know he has a hella grudge.
