I guess it's acceptable for it to end this way. The author did tease a little that Susan MIGHT still exist that she might be that woman but the fact that they ignored it in the end just means that she no longer a threat and nothing that our protagonists cannot handle. Susan might still be there but she no longer deserves to be in the story. let's just keep it as a beautiful ending for Adele for now.
