Yeah no. It's really not. How can you equate fictional children with real ones? Those who actually f*cked kids and those that actually consume real child porn are pedophiles.
Those who only read/write these shota/lolicons mangas can't be called equivalent to real life pedos.

I disagree! Because you can be a pedo without consuming child pornography or abusing children. Some pedos don't act on their urges. But I think it is quite pedophilic if you get off from shotacon or lolicon since it explicitely put children on the spot. I don't think writing those makes you a pedo, maybe a bit twisted, but I wouldn't say they are a pedo.But if someone gets off to that, yeh, I would consider that as having pedophilic tendencies

Hmmm but speaking from my own POV, it's not like I get off to shotas specifically? To me all yaois are pretty much the same? Only the plot and art styles differs and those are much more important. It's not like I (or most of the readers, I assumed) specifically search for shotacons to read.
It's more like, this plot sounds nice plus the art is really good, so I'll read this, then I ended up liking them.
This one just happen to have a child in it. But I don't even take that into account? So yeah, I do take offence when people equate those who enjoyed the story with actual pedos. Since to me, they're not the same.

I wouldn't call people that get off to shota (not real life children) pedos but I do feel like it is a bit of a paraphilia. Shotas and lolis are a grey area for me, like I wouldn't call someone that likes both or one or the other an actual pedophile. It's like in between, since it is fiction. It is a conflicting subject (to me to say the least) so I kind of agree and disagree with what you're saying? Because here (in Canada) it is illegal and considered pedophilia to own things that are depicting children (naked drawings of children, hentai of children). That's where my opinion is based off

I actually googled to see what DSM defined pedophilia as, and the manual defines it as a paraphilia involving intense and recurrent sexual urges towards and fantasies about prepubescent children that have either been acted upon or which cause the person with the attraction distress or interpersonal difficulty.

So one can be a pedo if they had acted on their sexual urges, or if they have very strong attraction to children which cause them personal distress (physical or emotional i suppose).

So the average joes like you or me, that may read some shotacons once in a while (or even those who had gotten off of them but are not addicted), does not fit the textbook definition. Me thinks.

Exactly. The comment section irked me so much exactly because this story is actually pretty mild? There's some seriously fucked up stuffs out there that legit scarred me for life.

For my pov... I enjoyed reading this story as someone who likes the artwork & plot. But to get off on this, not really.. but I can differentiate realism with fiction. Obviously I wouldn't tolerate this irl.. same with rape and blackmail.. but I'll accept it as it is, which is a fictional story. :)
