I don't think there's an age gap, they did mention her being severely malnourished and her growth was stunted because of how she was treated. She should be pretty much to his shoulders at her age but since of how her trash grandfather treated her she stopped growing properly

the problem is not in age gape I think, it's their different maturity level. like mc behaves normal for a 7yo, but the other children seems too conscious and mature for preteens. esp the ml. like give him some height and he's a ready-made adult ml.
