Form what the brother said it didn't sound like emergency surgery, since it's just to cut off the bond. And the way he framed it also made it sound like it was experimental since it had major side effects.

Rough translation was there was something wrong with Oliver’s uterus neck (cervix) and he was going into premature labor and he was going to loose the baby so doctor tried surgery to save it but in the end he ended up loosing the child anyhow. And sometime before this I guess Oliver’s alpha abandoned him. So his family wanted to break off the bond between Oliver and that alpha because they didn’t want Oliver to be with a man who didn’t care about him
