I think the manhwa was kinda rush out, the novel is more detailed tho. Like, so detailed that you need to read everything to understand it. So manhwa probably missed a lot of things ╥﹏╥
I don't read the novel. But, for the shaman thing, it really downs to calling. I think it's in so many culture with differentiation, but as far as I know, in Korea, when people born with imbalance energy, they either became weak or strong spiritually. And they need something to balance the energy.
And sometimes when the spirituality is so imbalance that the body can't handle, they need help from god and became a medium/shamans, or share/receive the energy with/from other people.

If it's variety, it's a common way to promote in korea, usually these type of manhwa used some already popular format of variety in korea, maybe they used that too. Like seasonal variety in tvN.
