Ngl the tirade of "Fuck Mincheol, i don't wanna see his backstory" is tiring af. It's the least interesting kind of conversation this topic could have. You can just skip these chapters folks. Free will, baby. Use it.
Personally I like stories that make their characters more complex. You do understand that these flashbacks also flesh out our girlie? Mincheol isn't a human shaped trash bag (...okay he kinda is now) and Na Haseo isn't just a door mat that says "Please step on me" (...okay she kinda is now)
He was a genuine upstanding teen deeply in love with his girlfriend and he wanted her happy and comfortable. Someone with a savior complex would have beaten her father back and focused on something superficial like "I want a big mansion for her". But he took the hits, because he understands that seeing her father hurt wouldn't make her happy (because children of abusers sadly still often love their parents and excuse their behavior) and he wants a "warm place" because she gets cold easy. But we do see his character flaws already shining through. He is arrogant and thinks that his results are the only important thing while completely ignoring his attitude. Not to mention his jealousy (which is inherently bad btw). This is just the prequel to his behavior at work when the dude asked about his "family member".
Na Haseo on the other hand feels indebted to him because of that, not to mention, that they bonded over this and she is hardcore attached. Which is perfectly human. She also apparently overcorrected from her father's behavior and stayed incredibly calm and never assumed anything bad about Mincheol before the incident. (honestly I'm still waiting for a big emotional outburst and I hope Beom is the receiving one). She also works her butt off because she is under the assumption that this is the only thing she can do to help her husband, that would have given her the world when they first started out. This also explains why she is so attentive towards her new young paramour. She is already back in old patterns. Her need to take care of some bum is so overwhelming that she ignores a lot of red flags just to be with him.
The backstory is such a great addition and elevated this from "just smut" to an actual well-build story that happens to be horny sometimes.
Normally we get people that are undeniably shltty and any good deed was self-serving. I hate Mincheol, but I think it's neat that the author made him a genuinely solid fella in the backstory. It shows how and why they were a couple in the first place. That there was enough good to pull ahead and that people can change for the worse.
They were cute and under different circumstances, their love story could have been a sweet tale of uplifting each other and staying through thick and thin. But they got financial problems which is basically a baton to the knee for relationships and it all went downhill.
I think this makes the story a lot more believable.
Also I hope she stays single. I think it's absolute dog shlt that he lies to her now, especially after the shlt she went through to manipulate her into another dependent relationship. Fvck him and Mincheol, I am team stable income for Na Hae-soo. I am team lotto win. I am team sudden good job opportunity

Especially considering that Hae-soo just got away from a lying Bastard. She deserves an honest person with integrity
Whenever I see their past, I can see why our sweetiepie felt so betrayed. They were a cute couple, he thought about her and tried making sweet gifts. In another life this could have been a slice-of-life with them doing their best with each other.

I think... I think I'll give him some grace. Don't get me wrong, I don't like him. His design is bland and he is a bad partner and his personality is trash. But as far as I am concerned my dude can be recycled. There is nothing wrong with wanting your partner to stay close by, medieval long distance might be even worse, but he does not want her to fail. While these wishes are conflicting, that's actually a good start. Be just needs to take a step back here, put his wants at the back of the line anc prioritize her
I think separation, after a LONG ASS TALK, might be the best way for them to salvage their relationship. They can clear up the misunderstanding, he can acknowledge his mistakes towards her and plan to be pen pals for her stay in the other kingdom. If he actually helps her out with the studies until she goes abroad, they might even start their "pause" on a positive note. But even just saying away to avoid any big emotions could also be good.
Now while this author has quite gracefully avoided horrendous tropes, I fear that the cunt Claude might become the second male lead that is barely better than the first and will result in a lot of useless misunderstandings. With a little luck he might be just a platonic friend that gets his head put straight by being next to her... I god please I hope so... At least his design is more appealing

I mean I like that she did stop the count (and that she beat his azz, that was absolutely warranted). I would have loved If they mentioned that she is a married woman after all and has to be respectable. She said that she only acted mad around her fine ass husband, but is otherwise collected. It would make sense for her to adhere to the virtues of a wife, even if she doesn't like her very pretty man.
That would do some good to her characterization bc now it seems more like she is a spoiled rotten brat. Hopefully she and her gorgeous husband will be lovey-dovey now. That beautiful man deserves love and affection.
