Idk about others, but my Chinese relatives were hella unfiltered. They always complain and nagged my parents/grandparents about me not knowing chinese and saying I was disappointing, even with me in the room. Sure, I was 4 y/o (happened up to 8) and I still understood them in the little Cantonese I spoke. It pissed me off real bad I hated my Chinese side for years.
You shouldn't care about what they say it's your choice to learn their language or not if we care about every single thing they say we will suffer alot
