I would like to think it's because they've read about it and probably searched it up and just discovered different terms & definitions since they seem like the intellect type. They probably research what the urges mean or when they feeling primal. Then I could also see them getting the information from others who already acted out on those feelings or people they've came cross over time.
Well, there have been two cases that they didn't know about, for example, the blonde blue eyed character, that was extremely naive/innocent so he genuinely didn't know about it and Tehir, who knows but never experienced.
