In my personal opinion, I don't see what's so special about Dan.
Sure, simplicity is probably where the author is trying to get at. But dan has a very dull personality to even make him special. He's just poor af, and addict and always has a sad face. And as you said: he has very poor self worth and value. That's sad.
So for JK to grovel, idk if that's even going to happen. Dan being a pushover is just gonna make Dan forgive him so quick. So idk if there's gonna be any character progress of development on either MCs side's.
I agree with you for the most part, I think Dan's charter is the cliche 'oh woe is me' type MC, his only makes himself noticed to the reader by how unfortunate he is. But that's also why he as so many rabid fans.
I do think Dan will feel sorry for JK but I don't know about forgiving quickly, I feel the author is cooking something and the grandma is gonna die at some point and it's gonna matter.
That's true that Dan doesn't have a big or amazing personality, he is a normal kind guy who was and is working hard, he just got into trouble because of other people always, he himself didn't choose to get into it. Whatever the things happend he didn't let anyone get to him and took it all himself, until JJK showed up and cleared his debt but that too he has to pay with his body. He was always alone until JJK showed up in his life, so Dan accepted JJK even though he was a jerk because no one in his life ever helped him but always abused his kind heart. but that took downhill after he got blamed JJK losing match so ofcourse there is so much he could endure. I think Mingwa is really cooking something big that might cause a turn over in Dan's personality Tbh I won't mind he being cold AF now tbh I really like how dan personality shifted in season 2 (just hate the drinking part though)
